Accessibility
Salt Spring Nature Academy strives to welcome every child and family. This page explains how we approach accessibility, and gives you a direct way to tell us about barriers you run into.
Accessibility Plan
Accessibility at SSNA covers the whole experience of the school: the grounds, the program, how we communicate, and this website. Our aim is to identify barriers, remove the ones we can, and be honest about the ones we are still working on.
Much of our day happens outdoors on 70 acres of forest, wetland, and meadow. Trails, weather, and terrain shape what is possible, and we plan around them. When a child has additional support needs, we talk openly with the family about what the program can offer. As a parent-funded school our resources for additional support are limited, and we would rather say so up front than make promises we cannot keep.
What we do
- Review accessibility feedback as it arrives and log it for follow-up.
- Discuss access needs with each family before and during enrolment.
- Adapt routes, pacing, and activities so children can take part in ways that work for them.
- Build this website to work with keyboards, screen readers, and text resizing, and fix problems when they are reported.
- Revisit this plan each school year and update it with what we have learned.
How feedback is handled
Students, families, staff, visitors, and members of the public can share feedback about accessibility and barriers to participation through the form below or by contacting the school directly. Feedback can be anonymous.
School administration reviews each submission, records it in an internal log, and uses it to identify barriers, decide on actions, and inform updates to this plan. Personal information shared through this process is handled under our privacy policy.
Provide Feedback
Tell us about a barrier you experienced with our school, programs, communication, grounds, or website. You do not need to give your name.
